This is so important and scary that I’m going to just steal some of it from Lambert at corrente as well as send you there for the rest.
Christians have an obligation, a mandate, a commission, a holy responsibility to reclaim the land for Jesus Christ – to have dominion in the civil structures, just as in every other aspect of life and godliness. But it is dominion that we are after. Not just a voice. It is dominion we are afier. Not just influence. It is dominion we are after. Not just equal time. It is dominion we are after.
World conquest. That’s what Christ has commissioned us to accomplish. We must win the world with the power of the Gospel. And we must never settle for anything less. If Jesus Christ is indeed Lord, as the Bible says, and if our commission is to bring the land into subjection to His Lordship, as the Bible says, then all our activities, all our witnessing, all our preaching, all our craftsmanship, all our stewardship, and all our political action will aim at nothing short of that sacred purpose. Thus, Christian politics has as its primary intent the conquest of the land — of men, families, institutions, bureaucracies, courts, and governments for the Kingdom of Christ. It is to reinstitute the authority of God’s Word as supreme over all judgments, over all legislation, over all declarations, constitutions, and confederations. True Christian political action seeks to rein the passions of men and curb the pattern of digression under God’s rule. Fortunately, because of the theocratic orientation of our founding fathers, our nation has virtually all the apparatus extant to implement such a reclamation. Unfortunately, the enemies of the Gospel have hand-in-hand eroded the strength of those godly foundations. Thus, we stand at the crossroads.
That above passage can be found in The Changing of the Guard; Biblical Blueprints for Political Action, by George Grant. Published by Dominion Press of Fort Worth, Texas; copyright 1987. Grant is a former Executive Director of Coral Ridge Ministries.
You can read that passage, and many others, here: (see book pages 50-51 – online pages 81-82) The Changing of the Guard.
A more recent post is here and a related post is here. Meanwhile Lambert is sending people here for more:
Americans have long been in denial that there is a movement in the U.S. that seeks to impose a Christian theocratic government; that there is a movement that is effectively using the tools of constitutional democracy, (also known as elections) to end constitutional democracy as we know it; that this movement is growing in number and power. It can’t happen here, we reassure ourselves. Americans won’t let it happen. But in fact, we are closer now than we have ever been, to “it” happening here.
These people mean it. America is an experiment. Democracy is an experiment. American democracy has not been around very long, and we have never been so perilously close to losing it. All the checks and balances have been removed by allies of these people. They mean it. The leader of the Senate is saying that Democrats hate “people of faith.” They mean it. Time magazine puts on their cover a person who calls for murdering us.
They mean it. A Supreme Court Justice declares that rulers should be chosen by God, not the people. They mean it. The Vice President is the keynote speaker at a conference where other speakers called for “a new McCarthyism” to bring “terror” to intellectuals, saying “let’s oppress them [liberals],” and that “the entire Harvard faculty” are “traitors.” They mean it. They mean it.
Watch your backs. I mean it.
Their motives couldn’t be clearer if they were printed on glass.
Buy guns..Lots of them..We’re going to need them just to protect ourselves from these lunatics.
I’ve been commenting about Dominionism here for a long time now. It’s no joke. It’s from God’s mouth to Bush’s ear.
A very scary truth point out here. We have to discover a way to win this fight, because they will be taking no prisoners.
…that is probably the most breathtaking intentional misinterpretation of the Bible that I have ever seen in my life. mikefromtexas might be on to something here…
…never thought I would see the day when liberals might have to consider taking up the survivalist lifestyle…
Not to mention a misinterpretation of the Constitution as well. A phrase like “…the theocratic orientation of our founding fathers…” betrays a stunning lack of knowledge, or willful ignorance (or deceit), about the individuals who wrote the Constitution. I shouldn’t be shocked by this because I learned long ago that objective facts and history don’t mean anything to these people.
They aren’t conservatives in the political sense, they are revolutionaries. What they advocate does not and has never resembled the United States. They would like to pretend that our body of laws somehow accomodates what they propose, but it simply does not. Of course, if they were to explicitly state that they intended to throw out the Constitution and start over people would see them for the radicals they are.
Another good article from Rolling Stone – The Crusaders
They sure as hell mean it! Scary stuff – might soon be coming to Australia as well.
The Religious Reich or the Moral Minority is just a cover. Just as a peacock spreads its feathers to make it seem like it’s more than it really is, FOX pretended as though the Christian Coalition made that much of a difference last year. Well, it’s a lie: Check out what I wrote before I fell victim to corporate censorship …
http://www.lasvegascitylife.com/articles/2004/11/19/opinion/fear_no_evil/fearnoevil.txt
Dr. Peter Phillips is a professor of sociology at Sonoma State University and the director of Project Censored. Well, right after the election he stated that “over 80 million eligible voters” refused to participate. Now juxtapose the aforementioned information with what was reported in the Nov. 4 Toronto Star: “The overall turnout, steadily going down for decades, shot up to 60 percent.” All this tells me that Dubya only has a little more than 30 percent of “the will of the people,” since Kerry carried about half of the electorate. That ain’t a mandate – not if more than 100 million voters either voted against Dubya or simply didn’t vote. According to the Socialist Worker, “For the conservatives who run the Democratic Leadership Council – of which Kerry is a member – their defeat will be taken as evidence that the party is too far to the left, and that Bush won because of his appeal to ‘moral values.’ Typical was New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof, who declared that ‘the Democratic Party’s first priority should be to reconnect with the American heartland.'” The biggest complaint against South Africa was that a white minority once ran it. So how is it much different when Democrats and Republicans in America bend over backwards to appeal to a declining* demographic?
AND YES, IT IS A WHITE SUPREMACIST THING. 1) There are one billion whites on a planet with five billion non-whites.
2) Michael Jordan plus Julia Roberts equals Tiger Woods, NOT Brad Pitt. In Vegas, it’s all about the odds*.
3) NO ONE is going to bring back Jim Crow just to keep your spoiled, ignorant friends and relatives from feeling uncomfortable about the aforementioned … Nor is cloning an option.
So where does that leave us? Well, the bottom line is this: We the people need global unity to save lives and solve problems. Except that the religious right is blocking that. How? By assuming that any attempt at world peace will invariably result in an Anti-Christ-run global dictatorship.
Why? Because that assumption keeps people from thinking that a one-world government COULD JUST AS SOON BE A one-world DEMOCRACY (I guess the religious right must hate Star Trek, no wonder it’s going off the air). And if there’s only one billion whites worldwide and only a few of them are rich (or anal about Jesus), guess who the other five billion on the planet will vote out of power? Yeah, that’s what I thought. All this has been admitted to in the Rev. Pat Robertson’s New World Order. THEY DON’T WANT ANY PRECEDENT BEING SET THAT’LL OBLIGATE THE RICH TO SHARE–PARTICULARLY WITH THOSE WHO’LL BREED THEM OUT* ONE DAY. If free, universal health care is ever voted on by any one-world democracy, the rich white elite will be taxed to pay for it (FOX could never brainwash the so-called Third World enough to be economically mascochistic to vote any other way). Since Michael Moore said 88% of those who voted for Dubya were white, it’s more about the age old fear of miscegenation than anything else.
inFkucing sane… the meek shall inherit the earth?? hello? These zealots should be sued for assuming a false identity ie. Christians.

Please people!
Watch ‘The Power of Nightmares’!
It’s available for free, streaming, at informationclearinghouse.info
it’s amazing.
It’ll help shed some light on this.
seriously!
It’s a very amazing look at the origins of the neo-conmen and their nemisis the muslim brotherhood, err.. bin Ladin.
Watch it! It was produced for the BBC and is astonishing. Think Farenheit 9/11 meets The Corporation, but with teeth.
Unmissable.
And yeah, these lunatic as dangerous as hell.
Randi Rhodes was asking, “How do these people explain the verse “Render therefore unto Caesar things that are Caesar’s, and render unto God things that are God’s”?
Isn’t that a command for separation of Church and State?
It’s the Crusades all over again. “There has never been a kingdom given to so much bloodshed as that of Christ.” Quote by Charles de Montesque, 18th Century philosopher who wrote that in order to have the rule of law government should be separated into 3 branches with a system of checks and balances. Now the religious right and some Republican politicians are seeking to control the judiciary. We are truly living in a frightening time.
What’s with the despair? The pendulum always swings back and forth. THe farther right its pushed, the farther left it’ll eventually swing back. We DON’T need to arm ourselves, ok Charleton Heston? We need only be patient and watch the morons twist in pain as the world, and the U.S., inexorably become more and more liberal, as has always been true, and will continue to be true. There are more atheists than ever in the world now (and growing rapidly, especially in China and Russia), more women’s rights, more gay rights, less racism, more interracial marriage and families, etc, etc, etc. The world is becoming more and more of a liberal democracy. The U.S. is just going through a brief growing pain, but will soon return to its rightful place as trailblazer in that historical, inexorable, unstoppable movement.
So relax already people.
oh ye of little faith…jesus said his kingdom is not of this world…i really want to be there at judgement day when these clowns have to explain first why they trashed the earth for their creature comforts when we are according to the holy text responsible for stewardship of god’s world…think about how a returning landlord would react if you left your appartment completely trashed…when this one will keep your securtiy deposit (your soul) and can send you too hell…and the real wow moment will be when they explain to the prince of peace the necessity to kill thousands of innocent people (civil and soldier) for at best highly questionable reasons (or to be blunt out right lies)…i will be the one in the lawn chair selling popcorn and lemonade…this is a show i will not miss…
Last night I had dinner with an old friend of my father’s. Both he and my father were Methodist ministers in the same conference (please forgive me for not naming it for privacy sake). The subject of the Jesus Cult came up and I was shocked to hear this older man say the same things I’ve been saying for some time. This WILL escalate to a real, blood-n-bullets, war. People WILL die as a result of these nutjobs. He told me that the Methodist churches in my father’s old conference are actually being taken over by the Fundies. They use the open welcome that the Methodist church extends to everyone to get their fellow cultists in, then, when they’ve reached critical-mass, (not a pun, really!) they just take over the congregation! I am not a believer myself and never have been (my dad just rolled in his grave) and I am just sick of these wackos attempts to take over the country. We MUST be willing to take up arms and fight for our country!
Since my email address is REQUIRED to post here, I must now add that I am NOT promoting this or suggesting we do it. I am simply saying that these people are a danger to our freedom and democracy and we have an obligation to fight them to the death. No greater patriotism exists.
John,
You say, “The pendulum always swings back and forth.” Does that mean we should IGNORE people who say they want to take over the government and kill us, and who are systematically removing all of the checks and balances that preserve our freedoms?
I think history shows that corrupt totalitarian regimes tend to take over whenever given the chance, and free people MUST put in place AND MAINTAIN checks and balances to prevent this from happening. ALL of the protections of our democracy are being removed by the far right, and now they are working on the judges.
I lost a lot of relatives in the 30’s and 40’s because people just couldn’t believe Hitler meant what he said.
Buy guns..Lots of them..We’re going to need them just to protect ourselves from these lunatics.
well sure, ’cause it’s working so well for the Chechens.
we will beat these goons the same way Aquino beat Marcos, with non-violent people power.
which means we have to start organizing for 2006 NOW.

we will beat these goons the same way Aquino beat Marcos, with non-violent people power.
————————–
The thugs of Ferdinand Marcos shot Benigno Aquino when Aquino wasn’t looking. Corazon Aquino defeated Marcos at the polls and Marcos stole the election. She gained the office only after the people massed in the streets and forced Marcos out of his palace.
Dave,
I appreciate what you’re saying, I really do. But can you seriously compare the current U.S. to 1930’s Germany? I just don’t buy it. Do we have some serious, constitutional problems brewing? Yep. Do we need to cower in a corner clutching our AK-47’s waiting for the black helicopters? Nope. That’s what right-wingers can do during the next liberal presidency (like they did pretty much from ’92 – ’00). We can then all laugh at them together.
I’m sure that in thirty years, old geezer politicians will be falling all over themselves renouncing their former homophobic comments, just like they do now over their former overtly racist comments.
I’m also that no group of Americans will have been systematically executed in gas chambers by the millions at the hands of their own government thirty years from now.
Breath deeply, stop worrying, and focus on making persuasive arguments directed at centrist-thinking people as to why liberal stewardship of the government is better for all of us.
Then we’ll start winning elections again.
p.s. I’m from CT, and probably overly-optimistic as we’ve just passed a civil unions bill, completely democratically, without court involvement.
John,
Just suppose for a minute that the Christian Right DOES mean what they say about taking over and imposing a Christian theocracy on us, and from there to the world. Who and what is going to stop them? The military? No, the officer corps has largely been purged of non-Republicans and is now being taken over by activist Christians. The Congress? The Justice Dept? HA! The Courts? Why do you think they are working so hard to take over the courts? The media?
What institutions remain in place to stop them, if they really do mean what they say?
So, DO they mean what they say? ARE they putting the pieces in place to take over and impost a Christian theocracy on us? Look how they have infiltrated and worked to take over one institution after another. Look at the leadership of the House and Senate. Look at what they are trying to put in place in the courts. Look at how they have purged career personnel from every department of the government, replacing them with loyal partisans. Look at how they are purging the military. Look at the organized efforts to split mainline religions. Look at the activist approach to purging the leadership of major corporations. And look at the alliances with the leadership of similar movements around the world, including the new Pope who worked to get Bush in office?
Oh yeah, one more thing. The alarm went out about the voting machines after Christian Reconstructionists started buying up all the companies that make them.
I do believe right wing freaks want to impose a theocracy. It can’t happen. It would require repeal of the First Amendment: “Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion.” It’d be awful hard to establish a theocracy without repealing that amendment, which requires all kinds of super-majorities at the federal and state levels. Ain’t gonna happen. Stop worrying. Start figuring out how to get the ultimate revenge – Hil in ’08.

————————–
80% of the votes in this country are counted on the machines of only 2 companies: Diebold and ES&S, which are both owned & controlled by activist Republicrooks. They tell the American people that the counting methods are trade secrets and we don’t have the right to inspect or supervise them. And by the way, we just counted lots more red votes than blue votes in blue states because….well, you don’t need to know, just trust us. Yeah, that’s the ticket.
Democracy in America is dead. You can’t democratically vote people out when the elections have been decided in advance by the vote counters.
I don’t doubt for a second that about half of the folks who bothered to vote in 2004 didn’t vote for Kerry because he’s just not a very charismatic guy. I love Kerry. He was a great liberal candidate with a distinguished career in public service. But he just didn’t shine like Bubba. And Bush is such a moron — albeit a charismatic moron — that he still almost managed to lose. We need to break out of the denial that we lost. Bush is still illegitimate because of the Florida 2000 debacle (would he really have won in ’04 if Gore was president?). The right think they have a mandate. They don’t. Whatever “political capital” Bush thought he had is long since spent like the budget surplus he inherited.
Look, Americans aren’t any dumber than Canadians, French, or Dutch folks. We got a little jittery and collectively freaked out after 9/11. We’re getting over it. Most Americans don’t like Bush, don’t like the congress, and don’t like the war. But more than half who feel that way don’t care enough to go to the polls. Just chill out. Stop whining about the right, and start talking about how to fix the healthcare system, or ensure social security will be solvent in forty years, or how to keep poisons from being pumped into the air and water. We’ve got core values, start trumpeting them! That’ll really freak out the conservatives.
The problem, John, is that they want to KILL us and may do so before the pendulum swings back…

For god’s sake Dave, they don’t want to kill us. They just want to starve us to death, deny us life-saving medical attention, fill our lungs with poisonous, rotten air, and work us to death so that they can pass their parents’ money along to their kids.
I used to be a fundamentalist Christian, Southern Baptist style. Don’t relax too much; Dave is closer to the truth than you might think. I was a Christian homeschooling mom, and my husband a Promise Keeper. The Christian Reconstruction movement IS the US version of the Taliban. The CR deals in stealth, and not even the fundie Christians realize their true intentions. They specialize in infiltrating existing denominations in order to take over control. The Southern Baptists are pretty much gone, and the Presbyterian and Espiscopalian denominations are currently under attack. If they cannot completely co-opt a denomination, they split it.
The CR belief system is so warped and illogical that most normal people can’t comprehend it. They believe in predestination; God chose which of us would be the “elect” and which of us were “damned” before He ever created the world. Therefore, nothing a CR does will change the “fact” that he/she will go to Heaven. CRs can lie, cheat, steal, and kill–as long as they are doing it “for the glory of God”–and they still go to Heaven. The rest of us exist in a state of total depravity, which, in their view, means everything we do is evil. And, of course, the CR proof of being a member of the elect is to agree completely with their beliefs.
I have listened to more than one CR speaker. Their most sincere hope is that there will come a point when martial law is declared in the US. They believe it would be much easier to install a Christian theocracy during a temporary removal of civil liberties which martial law would achieve.
They are biding their time, and believe me, “Repent or die” is not just a slogan. They believe in REAL “traditional family values,” like the ones Moses used to raise his children. Watch your backs, indeed.
Been there, done that, finally escaped in January 2001.
These people are just like the real Nazi’s, they believe they are chosen! Fox Nazi’s chose each other and shout any one down that does not agree or submit to their insane sense of being chosen! WE are never chosen, for the real ones never chose anyone!
As an Australian evangelical christian myself, I have been attempting to communicate to otehr christians that the government of George W. Bush is not christian , it is evil and fascist.
The work of the religious right in the USA is damaging both the Constitution and the image of Christ. We have people of the same ilk here (who assume that conservative politics are christian and anyhting else is not), though by no means as extreme as yours.
Please understand that many christians committed to the truth of the gospel do not think like these people do; do not think, feel or believe that the gospel is about dominion, for it is anything but that.
I pray that these people repent, and trust God to look after your country, and not attempt tu usurp His truth or authority by abusing the political and democratic processes set up by your forefathers, many of whom also believed in Christ and let that lead them to cherish freedom.
Please let me know what you think.

I about fell off my chair when I heard Condi Rice promoting revolution for other countries! She said it was necessary for those peoples who feel opressed to rise up against their governments. I sure did wonder if that meant us Americans. I certainly do feel opressed. And that’s a first for me even though I have lived through the presidents from Roosevelt to Dubya. The damage this admin has done cannot be repaired for at least two generations or three. And that is only if the dummies in this country wake up and start to vote in law-abiding truthful people and not this scum of the earth who are out to destroy us all. And then they must turn their backs on the constant drumbeat of the ugly libelous attacks on moderates and liberals. Women, you have the right to vote due to liberals, blacks, you have the right to participate in society due to liberals, and all of us have some protections in the workplace due to liberals and that’s just for starters. We formerly had a free press due to liberals and all of these rights were hard fought for. However, all is being snuffed out by the roaring Reich, but soon Americans will learn why the Democrats were in power for 40 years. They will get to see what really tough times are all about. But this time will be different as people will just not line up for food, they will kill to get it. Former Treasury Sec. Paul Volcker has been sending out warnings about the economy for months, no one is listening. Greenspan (a large part of the problem)is warning now, too late, but he wants to save face.
To the above comments regarding how the pendulum swings, is wrong as it can only happen when it has not swung too far to correct itself. There is no question that it has way, way passed center. The Reich has taken over the courts, the universities, the corporations, the states, and the federal government in its entirely. But not to worry, the Reich thinks of Dubya as the coming of the next Christ in cowboy boots, instead of the real shit kicker he is. Clean out Washington!!!
While it may be true that the pendulum of history won’t stop swinging (until the Gulf Stream shuts down anyway), it’s also true that the Nazis got a very long way towards a final solution. It might be that stupid ideas sort of naturally defeat themselves, but that is a doctrine of faith, and democracy is in a dangerous spot right now. On the other hand, buying a stockpile of weapons is just as silly for the left as for the right. If it didn’t help Uday and Xnay over in Iraq, then it won’t help, period. If “they” come for you, “they’ll” be happy to put a missle or two thru your bedroom window. The only thing to do is to try to keep dialog going, to keep voting, to keep working on the election process and putting up decent candidates. War is the far side of civilization, and when it comes there is no dialog. The Bush administration is at least more obviously wrong to more people than it was last year. But I agree with those here were are saying that democracy is in peril. It sure is! Getting a gun, however, is a joke, not a solution. What will most likely happen to your gun is, some neighborhood kid will break into your house looking for a stereo and find it, and then you will have armed the criminals a tad more. Or you kid will shoot his friend accidentally some afternoon playing Army. Reality is reality, no matter what the loonies thing, and that includes both the Xian Right and the NRA. –Beel
Well, there are points on both sides that raise good points.
However, one central problem with this thread, in general, is that its terms of debate remain too much within the realm of politics. Politics is important, but not determinant.
A major motivation of right-wing, semi-psychotic cults such as the Christian Reconstructionists is economic fear, pure and simple. Their appeal is aimed at a base which is being economically annihilated by off-shoring and other effects of globalization. White blue-collar workers have long since been economically crushed in America, and now the economic re-structuring is decimating the middle-managerial class.
In response to the bleakness of their futures, such formerly stable (and self-imagined privileged) social sectors as conservative white males clutch at straws. To the extent they believe their superstitious christian foolishness, they hope to have in the “next” life that which they now understand – in their bones if not in their rational comprehension – is being denied to them from here on forward in this life.
It’s their fears which render them controllable by the hyper-wealthy elite. The elite have total control now over US major media, and are promising a fantasy PRECISELY IN ORDER to maintain the illusion of a secure future.
Overwhelmingly, the CR’s, at the level of their “shock troops” (i.e., young, marginally educated white males), know in their guts that they have no future on the new, ultra-low wage capitalist future which is now a reality everywhere. The CR promises are false promises, because the top, elite leadership of cults such as CR are deeply complicit with elite finance capital. The shock troops are no less a serious threat because of that, for cornered animals ARE dangerous. But they are the losers of history, and absolutely everyone knows it, including themselves.
JDS Uniphase, the major player in fiber-optic transmission technologies, announced three days ago that it is closing two big factories in the US, and moving their production operations to China. Already, JDS and literally hundreds of other American high-tech firms have moved their most advanced concept-design work to China, Taiwan, and India. According to long-term planning papers from both GM and Ford, by the year 2020 NEITHER of them will be making automobiles in the US, but only in China, India, and Brazil.
The decimation accelerates.

Um John, don’t you get it? Today is “Justice Sunday” They are TRYING TO ELIMINATE the JUDICIARY that enforces things like the 1st Amendment. They want a theocracy, and they will stop at nothing to get it. That’s why they are threatening judges. It’s a brilliant and a very wicked plan, and extremely convoluted so that the average American who is not PAYING ATTENTION, like maybe you, will not realize what’s happened until it hits them over the head.
Democracy cannot be preserved by just trusting in it. People must pay attention, be active and act. Remember what happened in the Ukraine? This is a time to act. Saying “just relax” implies a very, very naive point of view.
I have never seen a more appropos time to quote the following to you:
“First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left
to speak out for me.”

Think about it John! Fanatics aren’t stopped by such silling things as a Constitution. They want to destroy the Constitution. That’s their number one way to dismantle our government. That’s why they are trying to get rid of the Judiciary.
Hi David…
You said:

When the third reich was started a religious element in it was very prevalent. Facism is always accompanied by fundamentalist and fanatical religion. This is just par for the course.

John, again you said:

John we have just built 6 more concentration camps in Guantanamo. We are outsourcing torture, flying people off to Egypt and Syria and other countries that do such things systematically, with no legal recourse. There are rumours and many of them true that more and more prisons are being built. I may not be the “ovens” but it is equally atrocious. Have you checked into this Administration’s ties to the Hitler regime? Historically, they are completely entangled. I won’t go into it here, but a google search will reveal a lot. Do you really honestly believe that Bush would be incapable of things like that? He’s TOTALLY capable, and with the Patriot Act he’s empowered. These monsters are trying to justify TORTURE.
To say nothing of how many Iraqi’s, 90% of whom were women and children, have been killed by Bush’s filthy oil-stained hands. 100,000 according to the last Lancet.
If you think that this monster wouldn’t pull another holocaust off in this country you are really, really naive.
Breath deeply, stop worrying, and focus on making persuasive arguments directed at centrist-thinking people as to why liberal stewardship of the government is better for all of us.
As I said before, you do not preserve democracy this way. And it’s not just “liberal”. Many Republicans are starting to realize that there party has become taken over by radical right extremists. We have to convince them to defect, at least for the short term, to get these Fascists out of office.
What we really have to do is be AWARE of things, take them seriously, and ACT.
Don’t tell us to “relax”. You don’t relax when the house is on fire. You do what you can to put out the fire.
Dear Fancy Pants Elitist
Whilst I sure you are right about the religious element in the Third Reich, I would think that they did not cliam to be christian in anyway – it was more of a Teutonic mythology that was the foundation of Aryan supremacy.
My concern was to point out that the zealots you see do not represent how christians think.
By the way, thw Council of CHurches are not the “good’ christians; they are often just was wrong, just in the other direction.
To Dave Ashton…you said
“Whilst I sure you are right about the religious element in the Third Reich, I would think that they did not cliam to be christian in anyway – it was more of a Teutonic mythology that was the foundation of Aryan supremacy.”
Check this out:
“The National Government will regard it as its first and foremost duty to revive in the nation the spirit of unity and cooperation. It will preserve and defend those basic principles on which our nation has been built. It regards Christianity as the foundation of our national morality, and the family as the basis of national life.”
The source of that quote is Adolf Hitler “My New World Order, Proclamation to the German Nation at Berlin” February 1, 1933
Seems like the Nazis DID claim to be “Christian”.
Dear Susan
Thanks for the quote. Obviuosly my knowledge of history is lacking.
However, being right or wrong about that doesn’t deal with the current problem – the fascist nature of the current WH administration.
Please just realise that these reactionary Christians don’t speak for all who claim to be evangelicals.
