See the Forest

The Republican strategy now is to attack, to smear Wilson and call Rove a hero. The purpose is solely to distract, mislead and divert.

“Republicans should stop holding back and go on the offense: fire enough bullets the other way until the Supreme Court overtakes” events, said Rep. Peter T. King (R-N.Y.).

Which has resulted in:

“It’s disappointing that once again, so many Democrat leaders are taking their political cues from the far-left, Moveon wing of the party. The bottom line is Karl Rove was discouraging a reporter from writing a false story based on a false premise and the Democrats are engaging in blatant partisan political attacks.” –RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman

This was followed by a page of smears on Joe Wilson, already endlessly repeated throughout the Right’s Noise Machine. (See the actual talking points here.)
Was there ever a more obvious time for learning to see the forest? Don’t react to this. Don’t get distracted. Don’t go on the defense. Don’t spend hours explaining how Wilson was the hero, not Rove. Use this as a lab experiment in watching the Right’s Noise Machine at work. Use this as a window into their tactics and strategies!
Just keep pounding on Rove, what he did, and why this is important. Rove outed a covert CIA agent working on keeping WMD out of the hands of terrorists. This “rolled up” her network of contacts, possibly getting some killed. And by exposing her he exposed her cover company, possibly causing damage to other agents and networks as well.
Rove did this at a time of war against terrorists. His act exposed all of us to increased danger of attack by those WMDs she was trying to keep away from terrorists.

  1. Rove’s outting of Valerie Plame is a federal felony. The Republicans can make the feeble attempt to spin it into a federal misdemeanor but, the fact remains. What Rove did is treason, no less than a vicious act of subterfuge. In times of war, treasonous traitors get shot. That’s is the general history. I’m not advocating that Rove get shot but, Rove MUST be held to account.

  2. If you live in DC – you are in greater danger of dieing because of what Rove did.

  3. Of course they’re going to smear Wilson, having victimized and betrayed him and his wife to take revenge on him. That’s the way the world works, folks. Geez. Once you’ve seriously harmed someone, you’ve got to destroy him. I’ve seen this so many times I think it’s a matter of natural law. You’ve got to fight like a tiger when you’ve been victimized, fight back, take it to court, get it in the papers. If you don’t, you can count on having an enemy determined to destroy your life.
An utterly standard example: the ex-grad student who’s professor stole his research, published it, had him thrown out of grad school. I’ve known zillions of them, bitter, career ruined, and nobody believes them.
Of course they want to ruin the memory of Wilson’s utterly brilliant career. How could they not? The contrast between Rove, the viper, and Wilson is just too great to let it stand without doing their best to destroy him.

  4. Keep up the pressure with the net, or vote the republicrats out. It is time to take back the house and senate from the two faced law club we call our government.

  5. Conservatives hate these guys too. It isn’t just liberals who value our countries origional revolution, we all should. Conservatives don’t believe that everyone in power is always evil and often warn that some in power can be or get to be. Bush is as much a progressive as Adolf Hitler and the Conservatives are just a little slower to see him as such. Saddly I suspect Hitler was a much better man confronted with harder choices; and there is no reason for Conservatives to be fooled again by this wet brain.
The law of unintended consiquences makes big government evil government. World government gets to play everyone against each nation forever.

  6. No matter what happens now, Bush and his colleagues will no longer be trusted. His approval rating is at an all time low. Even terrorist activity couldn’t distract the world away from this treasonous mess. Scott McClellan is being reamed by the press now at WH press conferences. All their names are mud, and the media will be much more suspicious about printing what they say. Look at Judith Miller, conduit for the WMD story in the NY TIMES. Is she sorry now for being an apologist for these users? You bet she is.
The Halliburton/KBR scandal in Iraq, the Gitmo gulag, the WH lies…. the house of cards is folding back into a little pile, and they’re all going down. Good riddance.

  7. Talking Points For Treason (Part II): Joseph Wilson and Dick Cheney

Picking up from my previous post, another strong meme from the Radical Far Right (i.e., the GOP leadership) in their Talking Points For Treason(TM) is this: Karl Rove Discouraged A Reporter From Writing A False Story Based on A False…
