Rove’s 2006 election plan is revealed:

US prepares military blitz against Iran’s nuclear sites
By Philip Sherwell in Washington
Strategists at the Pentagon are drawing up plans for devastating bombing raids backed by submarine-launched ballistic missile attacks against Iran’s nuclear sites as a “last resort” to block Teheran’s efforts to develop an atomic bomb.
Central Command and Strategic Command planners are identifying targets, assessing weapon-loads and working on logistics for an operation, the Sunday Telegraph has learnt.
They are reporting to the office of Donald Rumsfeld, the defence secretary, as America updates plans for action if the diplomatic offensive fails to thwart the Islamic republic’s nuclear bomb ambitions. Teheran claims that it is developing only a civilian energy programme. Source

The way I read the tea-leaves, the Democrats will be blindsided. Whether they support the attack, oppose it, or split on the issue, they will lose the 2006 Congressional elections. All the liberal hawks, conservitarians, and moderates will fall dutifully into line, and two-party democracy will be a thing of the past in this country.
The only time to oppose this is now, and none of the Democrats are doing it.

  1. Would Bush present it to Congress? The Aumf gives him the right to attack any country that winks at Al Qaeda, and he would probably declare that he doesn’t need authorization anyway.
Would it pass Congress? The only reason Republicans would vote against it is because we can’t afford it, but with a broken budget and their need for pork in a election year, it is a stronger reason.
If it fails in Congress, and I don’t know if hr would bother with a vote unless he was certain of winning, would he go anyway?
My scenario had him playing the politics thru the midterms, and then attacking next spring. But it was a guess.

  2. It’s effectively a triangulation of fire strategy.
They are both setting up Iran and the Democrats for the same kill shot.
How the hell can ANY Democrat step forward and say that we must not attack Iran and stop them from developing Nukeular Weapons? They cant. If they do the GOP will toast em.
    Game over.
Should Bush attack, then only after the blow back will the American Sheeple once again wake up to the cost and wrong this headedness of this planned/potential misadventure.
I sense this is as much a Win the Midterms strategy as it is part of Bushco’s PaxAmericana strategy. But I suspect winning in November is prioity One. I am not convinced they are crazy enough to attack Iran. Not just yet.

  3. Yeah, they’re crazy enough to attack Iran. Like who’s gonna stop them? Iran certainly isn’t strong enough to fight back, can’t nuke us because they don’t have any nukes, and who would? Once we do that, bush will have shown his “strength” and the repugs will win the elections.

  4. I think they are crazy enough to attack.
But not for the nuclear issue thats for playing on our fears to justify it.
Next month Iran is going with the euro monetary system, the allmighty american dollar is a worthless piece of paper now. Thanx to our debts.

  5. Do you beleve evering [bush] said ! He just dam liar. It just big spin . And do beleve him ? I do not be leve him! Ok it just like when he wase awol over a year. We would been put jail for going awol!

  6. Bush established a secret program in which the n.s.a would bypass the fisa court and begine eavesdropping without warrant on americans.

  7. “…That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers fron the consent of the governed.
